the title shows that the this piece of work goes under a multitude of names dependant on which field of work you come from, for this task i shall be calling in The Socio-Economic Status because that is how i first learnt it as.

The socio-economic status (or the ABC Scale) was created by the National Readership Survey to gather statistics on media audiences for television, radio and all for of publications. The Socio-economic status has been around since media has been become a large part of modern culture and has been one of the most used forms of audience readership evaluations/surveyors. It was established as a form of classifying and describing social classes for media outlets. The Earnings of jobs as well as the Age, gender, religious views are taken in to account when conducting survey as it helps to understand the audience better.

The Groups A, B, C1, C2, D and E classes the employment job roles into the following:

A – Upper Class (Higher managerial, administrative and professional, such as Mangers, Lawyers, all high paying jobs earning demographic would be around £50,000 and over)

B – Middle Class (Intermediate managerial, administrative or professional, such as deputy secretary and or above average pay, earning demographic would be around £35-50,000)

C1 – Lower Middle class (Supervisory or Clerical, junior managerial, administrative, such as a supervisor or highly skilled working job (one where more than one skill is required))

C2 – Skilled working class (Skilled Manuel workers, such as mechanics, etc)

Please note for C1 and C2 the earning range is for both £15,000 – 25,000

D – Lower working class (Semi and unskilled Manuel workers, such as mechanical trainees, or shop workers, earning demographic would be around £7,000 – 15,000)

E – Lowest level of income earners (pensioners or widows, casual or lowest grade workers, those on Benefits, such as students, earning demographic would be around £5,000-7,000)

If I was to take my cabinet of curiosities and look at which one of my ‘items’ would be most suitable for any of the groups up above, I would imagine it would look something like this:

Robin Williams, fine comedian, enjoyed by all, because he has worked so much over the years of his career, you would need to break down some of the work he has done to see which would target which.

For example, Mrs Doubtfire rated PG is a film that all the family can watch, so I would class the audience anything from B to E. for his more adult work like his stand up tours, I would say that it is more aimed at the those in the lower because some of the stuff he talks about in his stand up is rather degrading to those he higher paid skilled jobs.

The Inbetweeners is aimed at those in the group E, which is students, as it is set around student life student problems, etc, it might not appeal to those who work as a lawyer or a tennis player, and it is a young adult’s show.

Scooby Doo was and will be a children’s show, the live action movies where again aimed at children but had minor teenager/adult content with in it (which is normally done within children show adaption’s). The audience for Scooby Doo movies would be again those in E category as it mainly aimed at students, however, the actually show would be aimed those under the age of 13 as it is a children’s show.

As The World Turns is American soap opera, however, like most soap operas, they are aimed for those who are enjoy sitting down with the family and watching it together. The category that I would class soaps to target is from C1 to E. However  As the World Turns  is a day time soap so it could be watch those who stay at home during the day around lunchtime, making the target audience for this show those in the E category because others would be working and/or was unable to tune into the show at that time.

Facebook is a highly know and widely used by a multitude of different type of people lawyers, students, builders, lorry drivers, etc. This is because of the versatile of the site, it can be used on phones, apps on iphones, etc I would class Facebook to target those in Category B to E as it can affect to so many people.
